Tasks for Small Pockets of Time

With Time Management being one of our specialties, it was high time we shared what to do when you have those small windows.  The waiting room, the water in the pot slowly getting ready to boil,  or you’re on hold with the insurance company.

Small moments can lead to big results.  Here are some of our favorites to maximize those blocks of 3, 5, or 20 minutes of waiting.

At home:

  1. Wipe down counters, sinks, or organize one small drawer.
  2. Take out the trash, either from the kitchen, or collect from all garbage cans.
  3. Put away ten things
  4. Put in a load of laundry
  5. Run the dishwasher
  6. Empty the dishwasher
  7. Put your shoes in a neat line, or organize them.
  8. Cut up fruit and veggies, make some tuna, hard boil some eggs, or any meal prep.

In the Waiting Room:

  1. Text your mom, cousin, or old friend.  Has it been a while?  Send a funny meme, family update, or even say “Hey I know it’s been a while, just saying hey."                                                                                                             You could also just send a thank you text to someone who has done a favor for you recently , like have your kids over to play.
  2. Delete old text messages or emails.
  3. Read a non fiction book.
  4. Clean out your purse.
  5. Make a list.  This could be anything from  planning your menu for next week, places you want to travel to, household projects etc…

Driving in the Car:

  1. Listen to a five minute podcast or meditation, or stand up comedy.
  2. Call your mom!
  3. Make an appointment you’ve been putting off.
  4. Choose a fun playlist ahead of time and sing your heart out!

And sometimes the best thing to do when you have a few minutes is...

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! :)

Thank you for these helpful tips! I will definitely consider them next time I have a minute!

My favorite thing when cleaning now is to set a timer especially when doing things I don’t love like washing dishes. It makes the time go by faster and I feel much more accomplished after! Another thing I like to do is when I’m short on time is to at least tackle my emails so that I feel like I am doing something productive!
